"What's up with governments and controlling what's on social media"

You're kidding, right Omar?

Obviously it's about control but, more importantly, it's about business. Forcing big corporations, especially those that don't rely on physical offices much to have a legal representative in the country that it wants to operate provides funds in the form of taxes.

The reason why government around the world are starting to hate a lot of the social media apps is because it allows us to see the full point of view of the political situation with each other the government only wants us to know their side of the political situation

First it was the United States with Tiktok, then it was France with Telegram, *and now it's freaking Brazil with X* (or Twitter, however it is that you want to call it) What's next, _Belarus with Pinterest?!_

Can it just be a single person? And can that person be a lawyer? X still takes away the jobs they provided to Brazil, while still meeting the government requirement.

To be fair, unlike the reason France arrested telegram's owner, which is because the app promotes privacy, Brazil does have legitimate concern.

Actually having a representative office is necessary for taxation and other legal purposes, so I'm with Brasil on this one.

I think there's a good reason to have a little control as far as keeping in line with the countries laws and also safeguarding what gets shared online but out with that it should be up to the platform to control what they do

Social media is a powerful tool.. its obvious why they want to do that

Well you see before Twitter was sold, every country had moderators that were fired to reduce costs

Good for Brazil if they ban X. X or Twitter were never intended to have any kind of discussion. Just to spew hate and garbage on each other. People would have much peace of mind without it.

First time I have to disagree with Omar. It's not about "controlling what people can see", it's literally making sure people respond for their crimes when they commit them on social media. That's what Elon Musk is not allowing to happen.
