B17 tail gunner who survived 28000 feet fall
The 96th Bomb Group was a part of the famous Eighth Air Force of the United States, in November 1943, they were on a bombing mission headed towards Bremen, Germany. It was heavy and thick anti-aircraft flak And a B-17F Flying Fortress named Rikki Tikki is severely hurt. Young American Airman Staff Sergeant Eugene P. Moran, the gunner, was still inside when the tail was cut off by a well-placed flak strike and violently exploded. He could still hear the engines roaring in the distance and felt a sudden drop in pressure in his ears, which meant he was losing altitude quickly.
When Eugene turns around, he becomes aware of what has happened. Without the rest of his crew or plane, he was alone. The gunner tries to flee while holding onto his bullet-riddled parachute, but his escape door will not budge. The next alternative was to head for the fuselage side, but that was blocked by twisted, sharp Metal. Despite the gunner's best efforts, there was no way out.
