Cadence will buy Altera before all is said and done I expect.
Ironically for the exact same reason Intel did years ago.

Less competition and less choice but presumably better tools and better integration between tools and more coherent workflows.
Renesas and Altium has potentially problematic consequences down the road. Time will tell.
