So back in 72, yeah I'm that old, my buddy Dirk and I hitched up to Eugene to watch the Olympic Trials. We camped in a park above the Oregon campus. And hey, a station wagon with a camera out back came driving through our campground with Eric Segal, wrote Love Story, running with Steve Prefontaine!! Just like the Shalane video above.
Shalane Flanagan! Thanks for being the fantastic runner, author and person that you are!! (I still have that photo with you and Marlee from the Reebok High School championships at the Reggie Center in Boston from 2008! You made a little girls dream come true!!)

She is not on a strict diet. She eats butter, veggies, meat. She is on a wholesome balanced diet. The low fat high processed cereals and pasta diet that was pushed for distance runners in the 80s and 90s cause metabolic and autoimmune issues. I have to run on fat today cause my body simply cannot run on pasta and cereal anymore.

The amazing part of the story is that she won the race and came back and supported others finishing. How wonderful is that and unheard of; anyone believe that an east African winner would do that? She is special.

Your 37, the way you eat your diet has prolonged your career? What? What? Come again! 37 is now 97. Talk about bias in the media!
