Judges may not permit or consider "ex parte communications" with defendant in a trial outside court. The sheriff was supposed to give a deposition on a lawsuit against him and wanted the judge to help him out of his mess. The sheriff lost his temper seeing his career going down the drain, when the judge refused to help him.

The sheriff was being investigated for bad practices by him and his deputies in the area things got really bad when a new deputy sexually assaulted a victim in the courthouse and the sheriff got mad that they were not only being called out but there was an extensive search underway! He wanted to run the Wild West 😊
