Kakashi is pretty good he managed to learn and adapt to the mangyeko sharingan despite not being an Uchiha, and if Naruto has immense chakra and Kakashi claiming it's 4 times his own also means Kakashi has a quarter of Naruto's chakra which is quite a bit and Kakashi is always saving people also. His knowledge is vast and has great IQ and is fairly under appreciated

The way I see it, He is talent plus training, he is not too strong, he is not the fastest, he is a little bit of everything, he's smart, he's quiet, he is very strategic, he has a secret identity, he's like the only REAL ninja who STAYS a ninja... He's true to the show in my opinion.

Its a bit of a retcon but it makes enough sense. Kakashi was still pretty steeped in trauma before team 7. That was the first bright light he had honestly. Especially with the failures of his other candidates. Team 7 passing the test was THE START of his recovery

Most of his fights he always had to look out for somebody. A lot of ppl would've been dead from the start to end if kakashi wasn't there.

People are also forgetting about his father and he was a well known/one of the stronger fighters in the hidden leaf, so it’s no wonder Kakashi inherited some of that as well. He may not be the fastest, strongest, smartest, etc. But he’s always strategic and knows what needs to be done and he’s always putting himself to save others (naruto, sasuke, choji, the village).

Not to mention he always goes against people out of his league (pain, obito, Madara, kaguya) and he still manages to hold his own, sometimes even more. So kudos to him for doing so well, even when the odds are against him.

I like the fan theory of kakashi at the start of the series being terminally out of shape. Like, he probably hasn't trained a single day in 10+ years, basically since he exited the anbu, keeping it only on low-level missions as a regular jonin. The most exercise he was doing were gai's challenges, and even so he often tried to bail out with some low-effort ones like janken. So he's extremely rusty, plus has a depression debuff that we saw can have a HUGE impact (there's a mental aspect into chakra after all). Plus, he never really explored the kamui technique because of how it was obtained, and probably didn't want to go blind, wasting his friend's gift. So, what we saw in the war arc wasn't a stronger kakashi, but just kakashi after he got back on track.

The true way to powerscale Kakashi is that if there is an opponent to be beaten, Kakashi shall probably be ten percent stronger than he was assumed so at the end of the fight. He's really adaptive to the strength of the villain he is facing, which kind of gives him this Jack-Of-All-Trades flair, but also shows a flaw in scaling.

I kind of love the fact that trauma is what Kakashi has been contending with all this time. And we only get hints of it throughout the show until Shippuden which explains where all of it came from. Makes Kakashi feel real, more human.

Kinda goes to show how much it can hold even the greatest of us back, and how much we can accomplish by battling it successfully.

In my defense choji was there the moment kakashi died. Remember choji was lacking giving kakashi lack to defeat one of the pains. His saves choji choji cried and even admitted it's his fault

He toyed with Zabuza and only took the slashes to take Zabuza’s blood. And in the first fight, his goal was to defend his students not to kill Zabuza that’s why Zabuza was able to catch him off guard, he destroyed him when he got assurance that Naruto and Sasuke can defend themselves and Sakura and the carpenter.
