We've had donkeys on our farm for generations. Not only are they wonderful companions, they are also very trainable as protection animals for sheep and cattle. I've seen a donkey dispatch full grown wolves and medium-sized black bears with ease. They are strong, quick, agile, and fearless. Very under appreciated creatures.

Wonderful animals...we added Fred to our Kentucky farm not too long after he was weaned. It took no time for him to become a full family member. He died at 30 and a piece of our hearts died with him. I'm convinced that he had a soul and I'll hear that happy mischievous bray again one day. I miss you Fred.

My neighbor got a new donkey about three months ago and said she wouldn't let him pet her.
I walked up to the fence and started talking to her and she walked right up to me and let me pet her.
He stood there with his mouth open.
