Thank you. Thus far, the best explanation for what happened to Joseph, a still apparently awesome figure in the Bible.

Jospeh died in 23 AD. He had been born in 44 AD, he was 67 years old.

What does it matter, this is like medieval priests arguing about how many angels can dance on a pin point?

St. Joseph had a fantastic death. How better to die than next to Our Blessed Lord?

Joseph was probably at home WORKING. That's what real men do -- they work to support their families. There is no way that Mary and her children could have afforded to traipse around Israel like they evidently did if SOMEONE wasn't working to earn a living. That someone was Joseph. Without someone at home earning a living, Mary and her sons could not have traveled across Israel to take Jesus back home when they thought he was crazy as the Bible records.

As for the wedding, if Joseph had been dead at the time of the wedding, Mary would not have been invited. She would have been IMPOVERISHED!!!! And no one invites impoverished people to fancy weddings. You must remember that there was no Social Security back then. Widows had it tough. They were seen as a burden on their families. And people do not invite a burden to a fancy wedding.

Furthermore, Matthew had to have a source for the information in his Gospel. He didn't make it all up. The ONLY person who could have told him was Joseph. Nor did he have a time machine. So he couldn't go back in time to interview a dead Joseph. Joseph had to be alive when Matthew gathered his information. He would not have started that before the Crucifixion.

Do you know why the Gospel writers didn't make a big deal out of Joseph after Jesus was no longer an infant? Because Joseph wasn't Jesus's father. And this is something the Gospel writers wanted to emphasize.
