Puppet Or HERO? | Jose P. Laurel #shorts

To many, Jose Laurel was simply a puppet of the Japanese government, and is seen traitor to the Philippines, But Jose P Laurel, the third president of the Philippines may actually be a hero. During the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in world war 2, a puppet government was established, where Jose Laurel was elected president in 1943. Because of Jose Laurel's position and Jose Laurel's close proximity to the Japanese, Jose Laurel was accused as a Japanese collaborator, and many textbooks today even mention Jose Laurel as a traitor. But Laurel did not willingly collaborate with the Japanese. One of Jose Laurel's best contributions was his persistent refusal to conscript any Filipino into the Japanese army. While today Jose Laurel is known as a puppet of the Japanese, Laurel only used his position to minimize the damage that Japan has done in the Philippines.

If only history books were rewritten and paint Aguinaldo as a traitor

I think he did the best he could. Maybe for him, it was better than for the Philippines not having its own government, no matter how weak it was. At least there's still hope to control the amount of damage that the Japanese will inflict. Imagine if Filipinos were forced to fight for the Japanese as it's soldiers. Those Filipinos' lives would be exploited by the Japanese officials.

I once read in his book of speeches, he was in a dangerous position. he was juggling 3 factions, Nationalists; which was his own government, those Japanese occupiers, and then the guerrillas who were literally making his job harder.

In power, he had to create policies that would suit the citizens under his rule while the Japanese and La Resistance were creating chaos around him.

He was NOT a collaborator, he was personally ASKED to do this in the absence of the old regime.

To paint him a traitor is an all too easy action to judge him. He is a hero and should be considered such!

He's a true hero... There are accounts of Him begging to spare more Filipinos. He kneels and is sometimes slapped by the Japanese for trying to save his country man. A Hero that was treated as a Traitor.. we should give Jose P Laurel more credit... He is also a Great lawyer and Supreme court Justice. That defined the 3 main branches of our Government.

He remained in the Philippines while everyone went to Australia. He is a true patriot and a Hero. He refused to let Pilipino soldiers be conscripted by the Japanese military.

Laurel was just doing what he could. I respect that.

He was a Shield to the ordinary Filipino men, he was the flickering light of hope back then, He is a HERO.

He is fully aware that he will be tagged as a traitor but he still chose to do the best he can to help the Filipinos. He is like the Itachi Uchiha of Filipino history.

He's not a traitor at all unlike the first one..

He saved generally an entire country from being brutally decimated by a formidable military power. A typical Batangueño would never sell out his family, his country, and is known for his industry and courage. Historians should point that out

If some body make a movie about him. I think it is blockbuster. A true patriot. A noble man and fine statesman. No Filipino leader can match his leadership and sacrifice during the most horrific time

You forgot to mention that he was shot multiple times in an assassination attempt, survived and his would-be assassin became his life-long bodyguard until his death because he refused to rat him out to the Japs.

Man had to choose from two evils. He chose the lesser one.

Finally someone who understand and view him differently, he was the most underrated and misunderstood president of the country during the darkest times of the country, imagine making a decision every now and then where the days by days survival of the filipinos depend on it and end up only to be painted as puppet and traitor by your own countrymen,

He was very brilliant for not letting the Filipinos be used for Japanese as cannon fodder against the Americans.

I read about him in other books and I agree, he was not a traitor. He just did what he had to do to protect the people.

Jose P. Laurel is a Phillipine Hero...he stepped up to represent the Filipino civilians not fighting... But the other leaders the books considered as heroes run away...

+Personally asked By Quezon to stay
+Promoting peace
+Maintaing Economic Balance
+Defending human rights
Being personally asked by President Manuel L. (Luis) Quezon to stay and hold the country together speaks volumes on Jose P. Laurel's Role.

The Traitor should go to Emillio Aguinaldo.

History books might have painted him as a traitor, but he's more of a grey person. And I love it. Anyway, many that I know have wide-ranging views when it comes to him. Some are firmly set on him being a puppet. While others are lenient but say he could have done more if he truly resisted.
