It's amazing how many discoveries in the last few years have come from plants or animals.

Dark oxygen is such a cool concept
In deep sea where there little to no sunlight most oxygen is produced there

To have technology emulate nature would be beautiful.

"More efficiently than solar panels" And? That's not- "and leaves" Holy crud that's impressive

This research has been always fascinated me. If we're ever able to work harmoniously with nature to create cleaner energy and minimize the damage we've done to the planet, I'd give my youngest child to the cause. My son's 28, he'd be an excellent helper.

This comes as no surprise really. We’ve for so long lived in opposition to nature, trying to express “dominion” over it, rather than in symbiotic step with nature. This is why indigenous folks are so important. They’ve lived the best cooperative life with respect for nature. I love this optimistic science channel for these glimpses.

I’m actually reading a book about using algae to produce energy currently. Such a coincidence for you to talk about it.
And I’m just reading it for personal gain of knowledge. Zero requirement for me to learn since I’m retired from the military.

Even our best solar tech is around 25% I think ...67% is insane

I love giant clams. I've photographed a lot of them in the Great Barrier Reef. I've never seen any two with the same colour mantle.

There's a bacterium that, silverfish, a bug you've probably seen in your house; has in its gut; this bacterium can breakdown almost any kind of fiber and turn it into energy. Figure out how it works and you pretty much resolve the clean energy question. You could apply it to basically everything from batteries to jet fuel, but you have to figure it out?

thank you for these beautiful videos . some important notes on those stats = the 67% refers to their light "harvesting/capture" efficiency not their "energy conversion" efficiency so you comparing two different values, algae typically only convert 10-15%, and solar panels "harvest/capture" 90% of the light .

panel = 22% energy vs clamalgae =15%
panel = 90% capture vs clamalage = 67%

I absolutely love how humans get ideas from other species. It’s so incredible, in my opinion.
