Moments like this made theon my favorite character . . .
not because what he did was good, or because I wanted him to come out on top, but because it really shows how much a person can be internally destroyed. In fact, thats really apparent with theon as a whole. He was destroyed when he had to choose between Stark and Greyjoy, when Ramsay tortured him, and when he decided whether or not to support Yara, giving up his long-desired place as lord/king of the Iron Islands. That is why he is my favorite.

That's really one of the best moments of the show, Theon beheading Rodrik. So freaking dramatic, brilliantly acted and great music to support the drama.

This theme was underused, it was so powerful, it plays most times theon makes amother step down the path of darkness where there is no return, but there are other times where characters make terrible choices that bring them nothing.

You should hear the version broadcast on British television - for some reason everything here got sped-up along with the frame rate, so all the music sounds as though it is in a different key (or at least the older episodes did. Series 5 seems to be playing at the normal speed judging from the lower-pitched opening theme).

It may be pure bias on my part, but I always thought this particular theme - along with the National's performance of 'Rains of Castamere' - sounded far more menacing on the sped-up key. Hearing the 'normal' soundtrack just sounds odd. Most people probably wouldn't notice stupid things like this, but to me the effect sounds jarring. Damn you Sky Atlantic for getting me hooked on the wrong version.

Don't you just love how GOT makes things sound more significant just by adding the word "iron" to it?

Theon's face was impassive. "The noose I wore was not made of hempen rope, that's true enough, but I felt it all the same. And it chafed, it chafed me raw." He had never quite realized that until now, but as the words came spilling out he saw the truth of them.

So yes he does realize he was a prisoner. He didn't grow up thinking that, he realized it right there. This doesn't mean he doesn't later (ADWD) change his mind though.
