Prospective cohorts on CIS and treated patients with mutiple sclerosis

Xavier Montalban, MD, PhD, BA, Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona, Spain, discusses work on the natural history of multiple sclerosis (MS) and how it progresses from its early stages. For the past 30 years, two active, prospective cohorts of clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and treated MS patients have been thoroughly investigated from imaging and biological perspectives. Prof. Montalban states that this has resulted in abundant data concerning diagnostic criteria, treatment response, and prognostic factors for patients with MS.
