Hmmm. The best argument for a monarchy (or at least a European monarchy) - its security is far cheaper.

I just watched Charles returning to Clarence House - he had a cycle cop, a limo containing Camilla and him (with him visible so they can wave) and two vehicles following.

I lost count after 10 vehicles with this one. Granted it is a state visit so there is an entourage (I assume they were in the two large silver buses I saw after I lost count.

Monarchs tend to rely as much on popularity and/or respect, as their security to keep them safe. Even a monarch such as Charles who not as popular as his mother, is still able to tootle about with minimal security.

Edit: It’s not just the current president- I just saw a recent motorcade for Trump - it had 13 vehicles including what looked like a medical vehicle.
