Cancer and Social Security Disability

A cancer diagnosis will often support a finding of "disabled" from Social Security because the symptoms and treatment of many cancers make it impossible for a patient to work consistently.

In this video I discuss disability claims using both a listing argument (at Listing 13 - Malignant Neoplastic Diseases), as well as pursuing SSD using a functional capacity argument.

Regardless of the theory of disability we might use, your cancer journey will likely leave you unable to reliably perform the demands of even a simple, entry level job.

I am 60, with Small-Cell Carcinoma of the Lungs...I was diagnosed in March and I have had my Lymph nodes to my right side removed which inadvertently resulted in my nerve bundle being cut from my neck and shoulder. It feels like a Sunburn constantly.
I am still currently undergoing Immunotherapy, having completed 4 cycles of Chemo. I am exhausted, including 3 Inpatient stays, each extending over a week at a time. Currently I am getting over Neutropenia (fluid in the lungs), and several secondary infections, and I am anemic.
I do self Transfusions through my port twice daily, and so I have had a lead placed onto the port now for over two weeks.
My Symptoms are terrible, and yet, Social Security has denied me any benefits from my past work history. What good was it to contribute, to wait until I Retire? How absurd. Now I have to appeal and beg! They didn't even help me apply for SNAP (Food Stamps). Some Foreign person with a thick accent was my interviewer! Thanks for nothing SSA, I am sure the Illegal Migrants aren't complaining!

I was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder and prostate. Had 2 surgeries, four months of chemo, and will soon have my bladder removed and replaced with a new bladder made out of my intestine. Problem is my doctor says that I might be able to work by April, eleven months after I had to stop working. SSDI requires you to be disabled for over a year, so i might be denied. I applied ten days ago and have not yet heard a decision on my case.
