NABOS project - Biology

Our group studies zooplankton - the tiny animals that drift passively in the water column. There is a very high diversity and a high abundance of these animals in the Arctic, despite the cold temperatures and year-round presence of ice. Zooplankton are a critical link between the primary producers of the Ocean - the microscopic algae - and the higher trophic levels, such as fish, birds, marine mammals and humans.
