I had the distinct pleasure and honor of being one of the builders who worked on the 100 foot "Sunday Money'' yacht. As a die-hard Earnhardt fan, this was a dream job for sure. It was about 6 weeks away from being delivered when he passed. Dale, Teresa, and young Taylor visited the plant a few times while it was under construction. His boat captain was there most of the time. He was a very nice guy, and funny as hell. Dale was definitely an attention to detail kind of guy and genuinely appreciated quality craftsmanship. I vividly remember walking into work the Monday morning after Daytona. The flagpole just outside the main entrance to the plant was at half-mast. It was somber to say the least.

That's why everyone loves Dale Jr., because he's so down to earth and knows the value of a dollar and is a sensible young man, especially the older he gets.

JR was smart enough to realize how easy it could be to fumble the bag. That is very admirable considering the unique circumstances he has been blessed with. Super cool dude.

Mitchell Stapelton with Satapelton Auto Works was looking at buying your Dads old bus, he also toured your old bus and bought Robbie Gordons old bus. You should sit down with him sometime, he has toured Robert G’s shop and has really helped bring old Nascar stories to life!

The 2 happiest days of a boat owners life, the day they buy it and the day they sell it.

Sunday Money is here in Brunswick Georgia now. It did get some damage from being pushed against the concrete dock during hurricane Idalia a couple months ago. Ive been shown around on it and it still has a bunch of champagne and wine glasses with his name and car number etched into them and his special lounge chair is onboard too. Very nice boat. Ill be honest though, when it first showed up here a couple years ago i didn't know who's it was but i thought it was a big televangelists or preachers yacht based on the name 🤣

The funniest story I heard about Dale Sr. and the original Sunday Money came from a friend of mine, who has since passed away. He was the assistant boat captain on the yacht of a guy who at the time was the richest lawyer in the US. They are tied up at Chub Cay marina, with all the other big yachts, and they are using the crane to unload two motor scooters they had just bought for the boat. As they are setting the second scooter down, Dale Sr. walks up, in cut off jeans and a tee shirt and starts talking to them about the scooters and what a good idea to have them aboard. The boat captain, a guy named Rocky, obviously doesn't recognize Dale, Sr. Finally, Dale says, "Hey, would you mind if I took one for a test drive?" And, Rocky responds, "I guess. Are you a good driver?" And, Dale says, "Pretty good." At the point my friend could barely keep from laughing. So Rocky starts explaining the controls to Dale, still not knowing who he is, and Dale is soaking up the instruction like the professional driver he is. Finally, he drives off and Rocky turns to my friend and says, "He sounds like he knows what he's doing. I don't think he'll wreck it." My friend couldn't taken it any more and had to say, "You idiot, Rocky. That's Dale Earnhardt." And, Rocky responds, "Oh, okay. Where do you know him from?"

I have several good friends-all diesel mechanics-that spent a bunch of time in the engine room of Sunday Money and enjoyed Dale's visits.

@Stapleton42 did the video on Dale's motor home.

Hobbies are fun and "stuff" is fun. Just remember though, you can't take it with you!

I think it was Stapleton42 that looked at Dale sr old motorhome. He's done a lot with old NASCAR drivers including Mark Martin, Lake Speed, Rusty Wallace just to name a few

The one thing that is on the top of the long list of reasons why I respect Jr is his honesty. He is one of the few well known people who is not going to lie about his faults. He was like this on the racetrack also. If he knew that he caused a wreck, accidentally, he immediately apologized on the radio. During the years that I watched NASCAR every weekend, I think I could count on one hand the amount of other drivers who would do that. Jr is really a class act. This is one of the reasons he was voted the most popular driver for a record setting 15 years in a row (until he retired). Not the only reason, but he is respected!

JR is no dummy to financial situations when they arise. Just because he has his father’s last name, he has still to this day carried the legacy and even grown it into many other things. All the respect for Dale!
