I think the reason some countries that are split in several timezones has squiggly lines along the timezone borders is because they are split along a river or mountain range, basically making West of the mountainrange/river one timezone and the East side another timezone, to make it easier for the people living there to know exactly where the timezone changes.

2:46 The Navajo Nation (like most reservations) is semi-independent from the United States and, as such, laws from the United States Federal government don't apply to it, and neither do laws from the state of Arizona. The Hopi Nation is a separate reservation from the Navajo Nation that just so happens to be entirely inside the Navajo Nation, and, as such, the Navajo Nation's laws don't apply to the Hopi Nation.

Arizona doesn't do Daylight Saving Time; the whole point of Daylight Saving Time is to give people more time in the sun, and – given that Arizona is mostly just desert – that's the last thing people in Arizona want. The Hopi Nation also doesn't do Daylight Saving Time for the same reason. Navajo Nation, however, does do Daylight Saving Time.

That's the reason why Daylight Saving Time can be a bit confusing within the borders of Arizona: Arizona's laws don't apply to certain areas within Arizona.

All this only matters during Daylight Saving Time, by the way. None of this matters during Standard Time, because they're all technically in the same timezone.
