As a former Royal Marines Commando and hybrid athlete, I believe lower body / leg sessions in the Gym don't have to include barbell back squats. Including other exercises like:
Step ups, lunges, RDLs, deadlift, Trap Bar, rack pulls, leg press, leg extension, leg curl, calf raise, GHD, glute bridge / hip bridge etc absolutely do the job.
Whether you're serving in the army, RAF / Air Force, navy, USMC, SEALs, Green Berets, Special Forces / UKSF etc or any area of the Military (or police, fire service, EMTs / paramedics) this kind of leg day will serve you well.
