Some of my favorite obscure Greek cheeses!

Everyone loves feta, but feta is just one small step into a wide and delicious world of Greek cheeses! When you’re in Athens, it’s easy to get a taste of Greek cheeses that are pretty obscure and very regional, and Karamalidika is a great example of where you can go to do this. You’ll get to know the city (while getting to know the country!) through the great food you can taste and buy in the market area.

Some of my favorite obscure Greek cheeses? Mavouri, which is creamy, buttery, and mild; myzithra, a perfect addition to pasta; skotiri, a fermented sheep or sheep/goat milk cheese from the Cyclades that is peppery, pungent and spicy; and gylomeno, from Sifnos, another delicious option.
