This is a comparison of focusing speed of the new firmware 2.0 (body and lens) for Fuji X-Pro1 with the 35mm f1.4 lens and the Olympus EM-5 with the 45mm f1.8 lens
Pretty darn close, slight edge to the Oly EM-5

Thanks, that's a great idea to compare those 2 competitors. The difference is really quite small.

Very close speed.
In the same lights EM5 was constantly setting ISO-2500, while Xpro1 - ISO-800. That is a BIG difference!

Interesting. In the real world, people need to make choices, and I'm not sure that it's just down to the focusing speed. The Olympus has small and very fiddly buttons for anyone with adult sized fingers, so for me it's the Fuji - which opens up a whole world of fantastic Fujinon glass.

I am using the Panasonic 25 1.4 lens and I must say that DOF is pretty shallow, coming from a Sigma 30 1.4 on aps-c. I get more or less the same DOF at 1.8 that I got at 1.4, but with much, much better sharpness.

Don't let this comparison fool you into thinking the are similar in focus speed in real world shooting. I love my Fuji X Pro 1 more than my Olympus OMD but it's only because I prefer the body style and larger sensor. When it comes to focusing speed and responsiveness, my Olympus OMD leaves the Fuji X Pro 1 in the dust over and over. If I'm trying to photograph kids or, it's the Olympus I reach for and if I were trying to do the same thing for a professional shoot, I reach for my 5dM3.

so there is improvement in the Fuji after firmware update - so they are close - but there is also a massive price difference - Fuji $1699 and Olympus OMD at $999 - $700 difference - the Fuji should be much faster for that price - both are good cameras. Some are loyal Fuji users and will find things they like over the OMD and likewise - Fuji has nice image quality for sure but as an all around camera with speed and functions the winner is the OMD - just ask around

The focus also has been said to be worse in low light, is that also better after the firmware?

no true, the om-d is in M 1/100 F1.8 mode and the X pro in A mode around 50-60 and at F1.4 and 90mm to 56mm (metering is different)
