Painting a car is not that difficult. It just requires practice and patience. I painted my Trans Am a decade ago and it still looks great.

I worked as a painter for MAACO and can tell you that thier prep for a paint job sucks. They just barely do a proper sanding job. I sent almost every car I painted for them back to the prep shop to be resanded. I had to quit because their idea of prepaint just didn't align with my years of experience told me was just wrong. I opened my own shop and made a decient living for 35 years.

All MACCO shops are different, different managers, different skill level employees... Its best to shop around, most major cities have 3 or more MACCOs around.. visit them all, look at the quality of their work. I ALWAYS remove easily removable parts, trim and chrome, bumpers, grills, bezels... I even remove the tail lights after I get there. That helps out the workers a lot... remove the front and rear lower valance too if you can. door jamb door to carpet sill plates... etc. I also like to return during the prep process... talk to the sand/body guy... tip him $$.. sometimes you get a little better out come.

My Dad had Charger Daytona painted by Macco it was blue with silver racing stripes and it came out beautiful.

My buddy had a 68 L89 coupe he bought from a Corvette dealer called Pro Team . It was dark green awesome car .

Your car looks pretty good really . Growing up I had a neighbor who in the early 1970's the mom and her three kids painted the family 64 Dart wagon with paint brushes and Rustoleum . It was dark green also. 😂

If you're only paying $1000. plan to return and visit the car during prep process and tip the prep guy, and the painter... $100 each.. is cheap insurance you're going to get a little nicer job.... and you're still only in at $1, 200.... thats a steal.

It's all about the prep.
If you don't have a smooth car under the paint, the paint job will reveal that very soon.

I'm sure they LOVED working on a real car, not a mid 90's Toyota. Looks great. Like # 19!!!

Dang, I came to watch this video because I thought you might have been trolling about a paint job from Maaco 😂. Interested in what that cost, usually I steer clear of a corvette needing a paint job because of how ridiculous it can cost. Looks great 👍

Here is something that people might not know. Any paint shop, including Maaco, is directly effected by it's geography. Simi Valley, Ca is in quite possibly the best place for having the best talent in the paint business. California is very well known for car culture. The sons and daughters of some of the best painters that were there during the hot rod generation are now in the culture and business. There have been examples of Maaco that were laughable when it came to quality. Just thought I would share. Great looking vette!

$6, 500?? for bodywork repair AND paint? Astounding, or better yet, it shows you how much you are getting ripped-off at bodyshops these days. I have a '96 LT4 (C4). The lower rocker panels are tucked under the car and extremely prone to rock chips (even with some stone guards attached). I removed them sanded them down to the primer. 2 bodyshops that I brought them to wanted $1, 000 to paint them. Mind you, the car is Competition Yellow, so no metallic or pearl. Straight solid color. I painted them myself and cleared them with Eastwood's 2k Clear Coat. Do you mind telling us what state/city you're in?
Thanks for posting this.

My concern... will it look this good in 4 or 5 years? I had my 92 repainted by one day paint, now owned by MAACO. And the key? Spend up for the better clear coat.

Thanx for sharing. That green '68 is absolutely stunning. I love those C3 bumper cars. I've had four '69s and still have one today. I'm locked into the Cortez Silver as the car it's a rarer car and all original so I have to keep it that way to keep the highest value.

Just a couple of questions: It's you girlfriend's dad's car so why are you saying 'we'? Do you have a stake in it? Also, how much did the paint job cost? I had mine painted last year with no body work so I'm just curious how I fared with my work.

What would a rough estimate be on paint from them?

any mid 70s corvette can get a MACCO paint job .... (however) .... a 1970 SS 454 Chevelle should go somewhere else
