Model tested: 2024 CX-90 INLINE 6 TURBO SIGNATURE 3.3 e-Skyactiv G with M Hybrid Boost, i-stop (340 hp & 369 lb-ft torque) vs 2024 CX-90 PHEV GT 2.5 e-Skyactiv PHEV, i-stop/Synchronous electric motor (323 hp & 369 lb-ft torque)

The Mazda CX-90 is a top-of-the-range SUV from the Japanese brand Mazda. With its elegant design and outstanding performance, the CX-90 will be one of Mazda's most popular models. As standard, the CX-90 is equipped with a 3.3 L e-Skyactiv engine with M Hybrid Boost, and delivers 280 hp, 332 lb-ft of torque! Everything is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is also equipped with Mazda's i-Activ AWD technology, which provides exceptional traction and stability in all driving conditions. The most equipped versions are fitted with a similar 3.3L e-Skyactiv engine with M Hybrid Boost but High Output! This one delivers a power of 340hp torque of 369 lb-ft! For the PHEV version, it comes with a 2.5L e-Skyactiv PHEV engine, power of 323hp, and torque of 369 lb-ft! Almost as powerful as the base 6 cylinders!

I'm not sure why people are complaining about 0-60 times on big family vehicles. Anything faster than 8 seconds for a vehicle this size is plenty fast in my book. Another thing is that the majority of people buying these types of vehicles are not looking to drag race. When the traffic light turns green they hesitate before even driving away so clearly they don't care about 0-60. To want something this large to be a speed machine is just mind boggling 😂

hopefully mazda will continue to refine this inline 6. Not to say that it is bad or anything it just isn't what i expected it to be.

Inline-6 is the emotional choice, but the PHEV might be the rational one. Big electric motor helps that initial launch. Will be nice to see some real-world data on electric only range, etc.

Part of me wishes they had of went with a conventional, torque converter auto, and an N/A inline 6, tuned for smoothness.

But once you’ve used up the EV range, what’s the PHEV’s 0-60? Inline 6 will be the same from full to empty.

The CX-90 PHEV is very lazy and doesn't want to waste gas or power, but if you stomp it, it pulls surprisingly hard. Coming off my 2020 MDX it's night and day. The MDX feels smoother but when you really want power, it's just not there, whereas the CX-90 feels turbocharged...the electric motor gives a nice boost.

Could you also test another run of 0-60mph in Off Road mode? I saw somewhere that they were able to get a faster 0-60 run in Off Road mode with the CX60 they tested. Makes me wonder if it would be the same in a CX90.

i hope mazda put a hottuned variant of this 3.3 inline 6 in there upcoming rx9 that would really make it a supra competetior.

You should change the wording to INLINE 6 TURBO S. TURBO is a different vehicle.

this is one expensive car to buy and maintain. potentially high repair and maintenance cost. untested motor which I wouldnt worry that much about but the tranny is big unknown.

I have the turbo s and I drove the phev for a couple of days and the phev felt slower
