When people argue that it doesn't make sense to take your little ones to Disney because "they won't remember it", I always say, "But you will!" and even the littlest ones enjoy it. My first visit to WDW was when I was 9 and it was only Magic Kingdom. My kids' first visits were at ages 3, 4, and less than 1 (that was three separate trips) and they all had a wonderful time and are always excited to go back.

My parents took me for the first time when I was 7 and my sister was 8. They knew they couldn’t afford to go again for many years so I think that was the perfect time for us. I can still remember that trip and all the magic I felt! I took my daughter for the first time at 9 which was perfect for her because she has autism and we needed more time for her to be able to handle it and now we go every year!

When I taught preschool the kids would come back from a Disney trip with stories of meeting characters. Teaching kindergarten kids come back with a detailed description of all of the amazing things they saw. Teaching 2nd grade the kids would come back bragging about all of the cool rides they were tall enough for. Kids at any age will take away their own excitement and memories from a Disney trip. It’s pretty neat to see how that excitement and passion grows and changes over time.

We took our daughter for her 5th birthday. It was perfect. She was aware of everything, could ride almost everything, but was still young enough to believe the princesses were real, that Cinderella lives in her castle, etc. She also remembers the trip very well four years later. We went again when she was 7 and it was still great, but she then understood that the characters were people in costumes, etc. I’m glad we came when she was 5! We’re also planning to go back next month!

Age doesn’t matter. The adults will remember even if the kids won’t. My best memories so far from Disney have been watching my daughter meet Cinderella at age 2. Also after Festival of the lion king show at age 3 1/2 she says “ Mommy I really liked that show.” The women in front of us turned around and smiled at me. Both of these times I was bawling my eyes out!! Very good memories for me❤️❤️❤️❤️

My question for fellow Disney fans....How many of us thought our first visit was going to be our only visit? 20 plus visits here!

Any age is a great age, however, with that magic comes plenty of work if you bring a child when very young, although well worth the work for the memories. We brought our son at 14 months, and it was amazing. From character interactions to incredible photos, it's a time always cherished. Not to mention, our Polynesian resort room is where he took his first steps!... Now that is some Disney magic!

I am a Florida resident. I started taking my kids as babies. My favorite years to see it thru their eyes was between 4 and 6. They enjoyed the characters and they loved to dress up. Now they are addicted to Disney.

It’s a good question. I took my oldest two at 4 and 3 and it was great! My oldest was tall enough to ride most things and we did child swap with the 3 year old. We had such a good time, we went back a year later...with my 7 month old third child. The older two were 4 and 6. Also awesome!!! The next trip was with an 9 year old, 7 year old and almost 3 and once again, wonderful. So my answer is that there is no perfect age. But, if you aren’t a super fan, I think the ideal age is 5-6. They are old enough to go on everything but still believe everything is real. Thus, I am having my brother bring my niece and nephew for their first trip next December at 5 and 7.

I agree!! We went to Disney World when I was 2 years old. I dont remember it, BUT listening to the stories and memories makes me smile. Looking back on the pictures and etc warms my heart.❤❤❤ Sometimes I think we think too much about those small things. Just go... ❤ We then started to go to Disneyland every other year. 🙏 Good times!!!

From a mom of 4 - We first took our oldest to Disney when he was 3. It was the perfect age for him. At first my husband and I decided that we would go to Disney every 5 years. But that quickly changed when we started going every other year. Our youngest kids went when they were 8-10 months old. We just had to realize that Disney would be a slower pace and we ended up staying longer. (Which we actually enjoy more.) With younger kids, you just have to know their limits and stopping before they get there. As a parent you have to be willing to sacrifice some of what you want to do, for your kids. Kids get the magic just being at Disney. They don’t have to do everything to get it. And the most important is be FLEXIBLE! Things may happen and prevent you from a FastPass or an attraction. Just be flexible.

I have a 7 and 5 year old. We just got back from Disneyland and I feel like this is the first time they will remember forever. I have taken them many times but they don't talk about it like they remember what happened; just that we went to Disneyland.

My oldest was 3 mos the first time we took him to WDW and my youngest was 8 mos. We went back every year. They don’t remember the trips when they were babies but they are in their 30’s now and they still love to look back at old photos when they were little.

Yes, its each individual family choice. For me I brought my kids at age 3 and 5. Some people told me they were too young to remember and to wait. But I only get to Disney every couple years and I hadn't been since before my kids were born. I was ready to go for me! Also because my daughter's face at meeting THE Rapunzel and such those ladies she'd seen in the movies in real life, priceless!

Great thoughts! Super well thought out! My kids went for the first time last year (in Dec 2018) at ages 9 and 6, for us it was perfect! I’m hoping to get back in early 2022 for the 50th celebration. We can not go every year or every couple of years so I wanted to make sure they could ride many of the rides and remember everything! It was a magical trip!

We made our first trip in January with our 6 year old and 2 year old. They both did great and had a fantastic time!!!

Read from a lot of people to not overwhelm them and make time for breaks and we actually didn't need to. Everyone needs to take into account how your kids are and how they act.

I was ten when I went to WDW for the first time. I enjoyed Epcot the most because of my interests, I like learning about science and global cultures. I also liked DHS because of Indiana Jones, meeting Phineas and Ferb, Star Tours, Backlot Tour, Tower of Terror, and American Idol Experience. But my latest visit I enjoyed AK the most because of Pandora

When we were on our honeymoon at WDW, my husband and I asked ourselves the same question about kids, thinking we'd bring our own some day. We decided about 7 or 8 would be a perfect age to bring a child- endless energy, and tall enough to go on most rides, as well as old enough to remember and appreciate the experience. That being said, years later we ended up taking a seven year old and a toddler. The younger one doesn't remember, and I mostly remember chasing him around and riding the carousel, but we have no regrets. Now he's 17 and basically Park hops over to AK on his own while we're at MK and meets up with us later in the day! As you said, a great question. Traveling with very little kids requires patience, and either taking a long break or making your days very short in the parks.
