This is my DIY opensource Linear Servo-Motor.

Explenation of the Video:

First the Motor will rast into a predefined position. After that it will move to the middle and tries to keep the position. The motor is controlled by an Arduino Microcontroller.

Specification:

Travel-Distance: 290mm

max. Travel-Speed: 200mm/s (at 24V; I think there is much more possible, but my coils are getting to hot above 24V)

accuracy: 0.3mm (remember there is just a 400pulse/rev Encoder)

cost: 100€ if you have all the tools like CNC-Mill and 3D-Printer at home.

I used an encoder strip from inkjet printer. The problem is coordinating motion between x and y while maintaining speed. If you only respond to step, then you can move only 1 step at a time which gives up the speed!

How are you powering it? Are you using AC directly for coils or just powering the bridge with DC?
