Hi Tim my parents use to take me to Thorpeness on a Sunday it’s a beautiful place, Dad said the village was build as a folly by the Ogilvie family for friends and family to stay in on holiday before the war. I’ve been back there as an adult it’s so pretty an whimsical. Thank you for a lovey video so many happy memories there x

What an interesting place - these “model villages” built by wealthy landlords in the 19th and early 20th century always fascinate me - I love the arts and crafts architecture - thanks for showing us around!

Thank for this. I used to holiday in Thoreness for many years as a young boy. We stayed in so many different houses and I would spend most of my days on the mere. I knew every inch of it. I’m now 68 and wonder where did that time go. Nothing has changed which is wonderful.
I remember taking a sailing boat and and telling my parents, brother and sister, plus our dog that I knew how to do it. Half an hour later I flipped it over and we all had to wade back to our garden as the house we were in backed onto the water. My parents were not impressed!

Back in the 1960s my father was the Tennis Coach at Thorpness during August. My brother and I visited for a week and rowed a boat on the Mere.

We absolutely love Thorpeness and always go there at least once a year. I am not a rower either and find it difficult so the wife ended up doing it.
