SUPER TRICKY TOUGH PERMUTATIONS & COMBINATIONS NDA/CETs/IIT/JEE/BITSAT/COMEDK/CAT COMPETITIVE EXAMS Find the number of permutations of n distinct things taken r together, in which 3 particular things must occur together.
Mathsphy
In all these videos on Permutations and Combinations I have always focused on explaining the basics and then solving the questions. My way of solving question will always refer back to the basics explained previously so that students can make the connect between basics and application of them.
Let’s now start about the Permutations and Combinations:
Lets get to know permutations first:
Permutations or arranging numbers or anything in an order
1, 2
3, 4, 6
1, 2, 3 4
With repetition and w/out repetition
Permutation when all the objects are different.
Theorem 1:
The numbers of permutations of n different objects taken r at a time, where n and the objects do not repeat is n (n – 1) (n – 2)……….(n - r + 1)
For ex. In how many ways 2, 9, 7, 6, 8, 1, 4, 3, 5 can be arranged into 5 digit numbers.
Formula for permutation:
Without repetition:
n_{P_r} = \frac{n!}{\left(n\ -r\right)!} ,
With repetition
n^r
Lets talk about combinations now:
Combinations of numbers or anything where order is not important
Combination Formula:
n_{C_r} = \frac{n!}{r!\left(n-r\right)!}
n_{C_r} + n_{C_{r\ -1}} = ({n+1)}_{C_r}
