Kerbal Space Program - Tutorial For Beginners - Part 8 - Installing Mods, Advanced Rocket Design

THIS GUIDE IS FOR AN OLD VERSION OF KSP.
"CAREER MODE" in this release is now "SCIENCE MODE" in the current release.

If you've been following along with the previous episodes you should be quite capable of landing on Minmus and harvesting science, this is worth doing a few times to practice since there are many different biomes on Minmus to grab science from.
So with an eye to moving forward I give a little intro on installing mods so I can use the Kerbal Engineer mod to explain about rocket building and some of the basic mathematics that can help with rocket design, of course you can trust Kerbal Engineer to do this for you in the future. Using this new found knowledge we go on to build a rocket capable of landing on the mun.

Scott Manley is probably one of the greatest KSP players I ever seen, also seems to be one the most informed, others I seen never bring up facts like this. Take my sub and like I don't need them anymore!

Scott, I'm only on episode 8 of your tutorial series and I know it's older, but as someone who has been playing KSP for at least a couple years, I'd like to say thank you for making this. Even as an older player, you've still taught me new things! Like the Subassembly section? I didn't even know about that! Here I was building all my rockets piece by piece the entire time. Same thing for the angling of parts, I never knew about that. So yes! Thank you for making your series! We hope to see more from you!

I've been playing this game since 0.15 and I'm still learning things in every single one of your videos, Scott, even the ones for noobs. I had no idea you could use Alt to copy parts like that. Zomg

Thanks for making this tutorial. I made it to the Mun and back on the first attempt and even managed to visit two different locations on it in one mission!

How can you tell Scott is a scientist/engineer? After chopping off most of the lander: "... getting rid of the mass..." as opposed to "... getting rid of the weight...".

Scott, you are really inspiring me to figure out ways to use KSP to teach my kids about "space and stuff". They enjoy building rockets and launching them, often in random directions. The first rocket crashing back into the ground after burning out and "stunning" the pilot was a bit of a shock to them and cemented the Good Idea of adding parachutes. :) Keep up the good work!

Don't you find it amazing how he still finds time to answer to a lot of the comments, make these amazing videos and still have a reallife? ;)

You've played 543 hours.... So that's why you're so good! Great vids!

These episodes are so addicting they come out waaay too slow. Sorry Mr. Manley I know it takes a long time to record edit and upload the videos. Keep up the good work.

Great video! Learned a fair bit of new stuff. Yay! =D
Most people who make STEM videos tend to stay away from maths, but in this case it's totally fine to include it. After all, if you play KSP and don't find maths at least slightly fascinating, you are probably playing the wrong game. =P
Strictly speaking, KSP isn't STEM, but it comes really close imo.

Thanks for showing that you needed to unlock the mods in the R&D center!

Amazing video again. That Kerbal Engineer is pretty interesting. I gonna try to write down those mathematical equations.

Nice. Suddenly all this makes sense to me. Never could get it while reading articles on Wiki.
