Today I'm explaining you when to use savoir vs connaître. They can both be translated as to know if French which can sometimes confuse the students.

In Spanish we have "conocer" and "saber" if someone speaks spanish and decide to learn french this situation is easy to overcome, I've never thought how difficult it can be for native English speakers to learn, but you already make it easier whit this amazing explanation ❤️

The way I learned was that Savoir was about knowing how to do things, and knowing facts, data, and concepts; whereas connaitre is knowing nouns (people, places, and things.) If I want to say that I know Paul, I know all about Paris, or I know that dog, then I use Connaitre. If I want to say I know how to sing, how many homeruns Miguel Cabrera has hit, or how many seconds are in a minute, then I use Savoir. Thanks for this, it was very helpful! ~Be Blessed

I'm trying to learn french in this quarantine ending. My french sentence is: je ne connaissais pas cette différence entre les verbes "savoir" et "connaître".

Je connais des restaurants, je sais cuisiner. Je connais la musique, je sais jouer d’ un instrument. Je sais lire, je connais la littérature. Connaitre est général, un peu abstrait, savoir est plus particulier, plus spécialisé, précis, concret. Maintenant c’est difficile à saisir. On peut dire je sais que tu connais, mais pas je connais que tu sais. Bon courage.

I am lucky to be from Colombia, My first language is Spanish, so I understand quite well the differences between these words. In the same time, I understand why for English speakers have a hard time to understand the use of this words... Good luck, guys!
