How to Install Side Step Bars (Nerf Bars) on Dodge Ram 1500

I took my running boards off a couple weeks ago, and that opened up a whole can of worms. I was not aware of the special fasteners that could fall down into the body cavity. After doing some research, I learned what a M8 rivnut was; thank goodness. They fit perfectly into the small openings.

For the rear bracket, You could superglue the washer and locking washer to the plate. So, when you put it in the access hole you don’t chance losing it. Also, tape the bracket in the middle either two pieces. A sandwich of sorts.
That way you won’t drop it in.

Quick install tip. We install these for customers all the time. We NEVER use the inside bracket, it takes forever to line up. We always use a M10 rivnut for all unthreaded holes and it’s a godsend. Both sides done in under 30mins
Side note: Assemble the step brackets on a bench and install in one piece.

This video was so helpful!!!! I acccidentally dropped a bracket mounting plate into the empty space in the frame but my truck had the manufacturer threaded holes at the front like yours so I only needed 4 and not 6, but other wise, this video helped so much in making sense of the somewhat confusing instructions! (I used Ionic 4" nerf bars)
