PDP Wii Headbanger Chat Headset Review - BWOne.com

Ever since it was first announced at E3 the PDP Headbanger Chat Headset has been highly anticipated. Does our review show that it lives up to the hype?

Hardware

The Headbanger chat headset comes in two different versions a standard white one that matches the Wii and a Call Of Duty Black Ops edition which comes in black with the Call of Duty logo and this is the version that we are going to review. The headset is made of all plastic with a rubber earpiece and has a solid feel to it. It comes with a 10 ft cable and comes in handy with since it needs to plug into the back of the Wii. The long cable gives enough slack so it doesn't just hang in the air and you don't feel constricted down if you move around a bit. It comes with a long plastic piece at the end of the cable which I feel is a bit to long at the end. While it is very sturdy I would worry for those who keep their Wii out in the open and could possible trip and break it off in the Wii. I think just a quarter of the size would work and would give more cable space

The headset is left ear only so hopefully you are comfortable with that because you can't swap it. It does fit comfortable over the ear and the mouth piece will rotate up and down with easy and you can control the volume with the dial wheel which is on the side on the headset. Press on the top of the headset will allow you to mute the mic and a red light will indicate this. Good hardware build from PDP here.

Usage


Overall

PDP did a great job with the first in game headset with mic for the Nintendo Wii. The quality is great and the easy of use is on par with all other accessories on the Nintendo Wii. We hope in the future that they will be able to find a way to make it wireless or find a way for it to plug into the Wii Remote.

3 things- 1) The headset stays loose while wearing it unless you have big dumbo ears, 2) The volume has to be all the way up for the sound to work the way it should, 3) The cord is thin and of course not long enough for a lot of people so make sure you measure the distance before buying. I tried to plug in my turtle beach headset but the wii didnt recognize it. I have the x11 model which has a usb stick as well as mic and headphone jacks which is probably why it didnt work.

If the game has Voice option then yes it will allow you to chat with other player online, like he mentioned at 0:29

@krishoshi actually it won;t need batteries. what would happen is notice how the sony bluetooth uses a charger, thats how the wii wireless headset would be

Damn it! I wasted my money, I bought this for Golden Eye wii and now I see it won't even work with it.
I just lost a good $25!

@jaquisha12thomas You have to connect ur wii to the internet, get a game that supports online play, and then select the multiplayer or online multiplayer function. Google is your friend.

the little plastic piece might have a lot of technology in it so maybe that is why it is so big.

@metroidprime25 Sorry my mistake the Wii Headset uses a different driver. ( that's something like a frequency to put it in lamans terms ) but it is possible for Nintendo and any 3rd party companies to realise an update to including the new device. it's a simply madder of a custom code being added example Wii Speak Wii Headset

On the back of the game it should say that it is compatible with the Headbanger Headset.

@MariaO3O it is probably better to buy this if you dont mind the cord it kinda depends on where your wii is other than that it sounds great. and with the wii speak you have to talk out loud and people would be able to hear your conversation the only cool thing wii speak has that this doesnt is its own channel its called the Wii Speak channel where you can talk to your friends without have to play a game
