Teaching a child reading skills is a parent/grandparents responsibility. My grandmother didn’t speak English, so she taught me to read in Spanish and I read to her in English. I read my father’s set of WWII books and she would read the bible and other religious nonsense. The only other book we had available was an old dictionary, which helped improve my spelling and reading skills. My take on teachers is to teach and not to parent. Thank you John, you are my hero!

I was a Democrat for 54 years because they were the party of working people. I’m progressive, and support freedom for ALL people, whether they are gay, immigrants, people of color - ALL people. But the great majority of us are “working people “, and ALL of us have to buy groceries, pay rent or mortgage, send our children to school, and pay for medical care. Singling one group out to champion their peculiar priorities overlooks our shared concerns, which right now is “the economy, stupid”. If Democrats want support, then champion the working class, swing to the middle, and voters will come back to the Democrats. Intransigence on social issues will doom the Democratic Party to failure.

An Air Force General named Poe figured it out after the Vietnam War. Why can we maintain a better utilization rate during war? The answer was: During war, they incorporated aircraft maintenance units AMUs. Subsequently, he mandated, train as we fight. Rather than having separate specialist units in peacetime, they amalgamated into AMUs. Analogously, Newsome would need to create units that comprise: firemen, policemen, EMTs, carpenters, bricklayers, drywallers, masons, roofers, etc. all on the same team and show up together to obviate communication stalls.

Unfortunately, we do not currently have the means to justify buying HBO just to watch Bill Maher. Thank you to whoever posted this video. Mr. Mahers views should be free to everyone at this point, because he is now in the same book as Mr. Carlin to me, and their information is for the public good.

Inspectors are there to prevent the homeowner and future homeowners from getting scammed by shady construction practices or mistakes that non-professional people might not know. Or to make sure current building codes and local ordinances are being followed. The system could be improved, but getting rid of them doesn’t work out well.
