That top bar/search bar on the new wiki brought back a wave of nostalgia. Glad to have a modernized version of the old layout back. Fandom sucks.

I'm seeing many of the old gamepedia wikis that were migrated over to fandom are getting themselves new homes. Fandom really is a site that embraces the "but what if ALL the money?" concept that sees businesses destroy themselves in return for a short term buck, and the migration from gamepedia harmed a lot of wikis.

There's also a browser extension that you can use to automatically redirect fandom links to the new actually real wiki, in case a site unaccountably links to the wrong wiki or refuses to update old links.

When I was shopping for phones and tablets last year, I used the Minecraft wiki as a performance test because of how completely overrun with crap that site was. Incredibly happy to hear it's moving to a better host.

The long awaited move is like a breath of fresh air since on mobile, you had to wait around 30 seconds to clear ads so you could view the page and on desktop you had to deal with all this content covering up the screen. The new wiki is clean, fast, simple and easy to use unlike Fandom so I’m definitely happy about this

The RuneScape Wiki went through the same exact thing some years ago, and it's been really great.
The new Minecraft Wiki is actually hosted by those guys, "Weird Gloop", as well.

I cannot overstate how much I despise fandom/wikia. The worst place to store information databanks. Almost impossible to use on mobile.

YES! Fandom pages are so annoying, they use the worst privacy GDPR thingy possible, if you don't want to be tracked you literally have to turn off thousands of switches, and even if you do that you'll have to do it all over again on the next fandom page.
I literally edit their page via developer tools each time I need to look something up because it's faster... well or simply don't bother and close the site.

I hope this starts a domino effect on Fandom, where others move away from it, especially if something like the Marvel wiki moves too, which is (one of) the biggest wikis on the site.

One thing i'd HIGHLY recommend when searching for block have another image of crafting recipe at the top as people get confused and don't know they have to scroll down. Also, for updateds, include the date of their release

I will note that it looks like you might be using an extension to make the wiki dark mode - there is actually a native dark mode already! It darkens all the parts of the skin so that everything is more cohesive too :)

there is a browser addon that always redirects from fandom to wiki gg, if available. hope to see something like that for Minecraft wiki soon

I'm very happy with this change, I went from reading the old wiki (before Fandom) nearly every day, to hating the fandom so much I only used it when I really needed it. Now I can go back to looking up everything, just cause I want to.

Fandom wikis becoming Independent is always good. Fandom is the posterchild of enshittification and is steadily degrading into irrelevancy.
