I have always loved this song. Although I've never heard this version. The words are very relatable. I can understand why the old man wants to hide away from the world " where footprints never go". There's only one person he really wants to see, although he knows it's not very likely, he still holds out hope. At least that's how I interpreted it.
It's been said that we see the world not as it is but as WE are. Having lost my dad at age 11, he's the one I've missed more than anyone after all these years. He does visit me in my dreams, which seem so real while they're happening, and I am overly ecstatic just to be with him, but then I wake up and come back to the reality of this world. It's really a drag, so I try to distract myself. But I always hold out hope that ONE day, it will come true. But certainly not in this life. Maybe in the next...
