Romeo and Juliet: Act 1 - A Beyond Summary

"No, sir I do not bite my thumb at you, sir, but I bite my thumb, sir..." Buckle up and get set for a whistle-stop Romeo and Juliet Act 1 summary tour!

We begin with the famous prologue, performed by the chorus. Then Scene 1 when the two families begin to fight in the streets, we meet Romeo and learn he is in love. In Scene 2, we see Paris ask for Juliet's hand and Romeo decides to crash the ball with his friends, to see his love. Lady Capulet tells Juliet of his offer of marriage in Scene 3 and then in Scene 4 Romeo and his friends arrive outside the ball, prepared to sneak inside. A challenge is extended in Scene 5 when Tibalt sees Romeo but he is too busy falling for Juliet.
