The Vine queue jumps

Drivers may have noticed a new type of traffic signal in Vancouver. It’s called a queue jump, and it’s one of the features of The Vine, C-TRAN’s bus rapid transit system.

Here’s how it works: After the bus serves the station, a special signal may allow it to proceed through the intersection while the light remains red for other traffic. The queue jump signal is located below the regular traffic signal.

There are queue jumps at two locations on the Vine corridor: on eastbound Fourth Plain Boulevard at General Anderson, and on northbound Thurston Way at Vancouver Plaza Drive. The queue jump signal is for buses only. Other drivers should follow the regular signal, and yield to the bus when it merges into traffic.

Drivers should also remember that right turns are prohibited from a through-lane when a bus is present in the far-right lane.

Queue jumps are one of many features that make The Vine a smoother, faster trip on one of Vancouver’s busiest corridors.
