The World's Happiest Country?! (GROSS NATIONAL HAPPINESS)

Truthfully, I have never witnessed happier human beings than right here, in this lovely country called BHUTAN.

Instead of using GDP to measure their country’s wealth and prosperity, they use GNH - GROSS NATIONAL HAPPINESS. (Seriously, this is not a joke!!!)

The 4 pillars of GNH are:
- Sustainable development
- Environmental protection
- Cultural preservation
- Good governance

Together, these 4 pillars have been ingrained in Bhutanese society since 1974, when King Jigme Singye Wangchuck created it. GNH has revolutionized the way in which this country operates, going far beyond happiness of its people. It has led to Bhutan becoming one of the greenest countries in the world and a global leader in sustainability. It's the ONLY country to have negative carbon emissions. This means that its forests absorb more carbon dioxide each year than its sources of pollution (factories) give out. How amazing is that?

There is so much to admire about Bhutan, and it all stems from Gross National Happiness.

Have any questions about visiting Bhutan? Comment below, and I'll be happy to help out!

You said "they produce more CO2 than they consume" I'm pretty sure that's wrong!

I strongly believe they seem happier than people from my country (Philippines).
They seem more peaceful and content.

Correction at 1:52: "They consume less CO2 than they produce" vs "They produce more CO2 than they consume".

Hello Drew binsky I have problem with you in this video you said that in Nepal tigers are being hunted bit it's exactly opposite instead all the species you said are found in Nepal in preservation areas so instead Nepal has been ranked the only country with highest rank of One horned rhino Bengal tiger and so all and much more so please don't use this word to describe our country we feel bad you know if you hunt in Nepal you will be thrown in jail for 6 years or more Thanks your videos are beautiful

I’m going to Bhutan in October….looking forward to it. Definitely want to visit before the ongoing modernization creates too many of our western problems and challenges. Already I hear that many young Bhutanese are leaving the country for higher education and for jobs as the country’s economy becomes more western. Hopefully, they retain the balance and keep the many wonderful things that make their country unique and beautiful. I’ve already had a wonderful experience working with people in Bhutan to plan my visit.

Drew: At 1:55, you turned it around. Bhutan consumes more CO2 than it produces, thus making it Carbon-negative. Also, I have read that the Vatican city has sponsored forest-planting in Hungary, thus making VA carbon-net-zero.

According To The Last Census Of 2014. The Royal Bengal Tiger Population in India Rose from 1706 too 2226 which is about 30% increase. Which is Quite significant. Try To Get The Facts Right Before making a comment.💁

I so want to visit someday. The whole world should use GNH instead of GNP. Depression is skyrocketing in the richest countries; people here have forgot what true happiness really is; it's NOT about money and a career!
