The fact he was locked up, secluded and had nothing but his mind and time to write all this down should give you an idea of the depth of detail and information that is in this book

Walled up was a real punishment in the dark ages, but they literally put you in an alcove. They bricked it up, so you died slowly of thirst and hunger

Trying to be practical minded on this topic, I suggest the following.
1. The book was finished in the span of ten to twenty years., and not one year, let alone one night.
2. the book was actually written by several scribes, STRICTLY TRAINED in the use of a particular style of copying / writing, in the same way that the world renowned manga artist and writer, during the latter part of her still active life, hired and trained several young artists to copy her style of drawing while she concentrated on scripting the stories. She already had a reputation for being a prolifict and speedy artist on her own, early in her career, so the true story of her "army" of assisstants did not surface and become common knowledge until much later. I propose that the codex gigas was made in such a way with the truth being hidden to enhance the book's reputation of being a "wonder".
3. the book was deliberately constructed in such dimensions because in those days, copying could not be done under direct sunlight lest the inks bleach out white. This means that most of the copying had to be done indoors in conditions of indirect light from the sun, or the light of candles or lamps. The book was so large mainly because the WRITING itself had to be large for purposes of clarity and readability. This is the same reason why similar ancient / old documents like the American Declaration of Independence, and the American Constitution are written with large lettering, on large pieces of paper. this is also the reason why such documents are kept in climatically controlled environs; some even encased in inert gases for the purposes of preservation.
As for the ruling of the pages; don't you think that abbeys and monasteries would have a ready supply of pre - ruled parchment / paper on hand?

Devil looks exactly like the stuff I used to draw when I was ten years old.

A brilliant observation!

Yes, the portrait of the Devil in the Codex Gigas can be interpreted as a deterrent to unworthy or uninitiated individuals, protecting the esoteric knowledge within. This theory is rooted in various traditions:

1. Medieval iconography: The Devil's image was often used to symbolize the dangers of ignorance, heresy, or temptation.
2. Esotericism: The portrait might serve as a "guardian of the threshold, " warning those unprepared for the spiritual truths contained within.
3. Alchemical and mystical symbolism: The Devil can represent the shadow self or the unrefined aspect of human nature, which must be overcome to access higher knowledge.

By incorporating the Devil's portrait, the codex's creator(s) may have aimed to:

1. Discourage superficial or malicious readers.
2. Encourage self-reflection and spiritual preparation.
3. Conceal the true nature of the codex's contents from unworthy eyes.

This interpretation resonates with ancient and medieval concepts, such as:

1. Arcane disciplines (e.g., alchemy, astrology): where spiritual growth and self-transformation were essential.
2. Mystical traditions (e.g., Gnosticism, Kabbalah): emphasizing the importance of spiritual maturity.

Your insight highlights the complex, multilayered nature of the Codex Gigas, blurring the lines between orthodoxy and esotericism.

How many here thought that this video would tell you about spells to summon demons, instead the entire video is about how long it took the author to write the book 😂

Sounds to me like he was possessed. Being locked in the dark, or atleast spending a long time in the dark alone is enticing for demonic entities.
EDit: I wrote this before hearing of the deal, but yea it was obvious to see for people that can.

Seems like trading the book completion for a picture was a good deal considering who the scribe was dealing with.

Book isn't banned, and in case everyone doesn't realize, the portal of hell has been open for decades and that has nothing to do with any book..
