I really appreciate the minimal approach to parenthood. I really want to avoid excess belongingss when I have kids. Thank you for the advice!

I am 31 weeks and having my virtual baby shower this weekend. This is perfect timing for everything else to buy after the shower! I am trying to keep things as minimal as possible so I really appreciate your perspective!

I totally agree with most of this. Put your money towards other services and forms of support instead of things, mommas!
It is helpful to have a few different weights of blankets if you live in a four seasons climate. But yeah, 3-5 functional blankets is plenty.
My kiddo is long waisted with super chunky thighs, so his proportions didn't exactly work with a lot of zipper sleepers. We used onesie bodysuits and basic stretchy pants mostly.
Hack: buy socks in all the same color or design so you don't have to deal with mismatched pairs. The Jefferies ones stay on pretty well.
Fun fact: if you know how to baby proof and monitor their temperature, you can ditch the crib completely and use a thin mattress as a Montessori floor bed.
I would get a wifi monitor if I was a working mom with a nanny or sitter, but otherwise, DON'T DO IT. My friend had a stranger hack their system and the creeper was talking through the monitor to the baby.
If there's a next time, I'm gonna get a Moses basket with a stand that I can use as a bassinet or take anywhere with me so baby #2 can nap in there under supervision.
A LOT of stuff can be found for a STEAL on Facebook marketplace. Plus you can see who you're buying from.

I have a friend who recently had a baby and oh boy her baby shower had EVERYTHING. So many things it really made me appreciate your much more minimal method to parenting. I will hopefully be taking this approach when I have kids (many years from now).

I've adored you and your content for years, and always learned A LOT. But now that I'm 4 months pregnant and you have had a baby for many months, I can't even explain how helpful and wonderful your channel is <3

100% agree but a stroller when you need it, to fill that need. I didn’t buy a stroller/pram before my baby was born because I knew I wanted to wear him as much/as long as possible. Several people argued with me but I stuck with it, and we didn’t buy a pram until he was 6 months and getting really heavy. Even then though I was too emotional about buying the pram and didn’t REALLY think through how I would use it 🤦🏻‍♀️ the strollers I have now I love, and they are perfect for the way I actually use them 👌🏻

Okay, let me bold and say that blankets are the worst baby gift. I have 1-2 blankets that I really love, and I was really touched that people made my son blankets. But I got like 5-10 blankets, and I’m like “What do I do with these?” My son was born in May, so there wasn’t a lot of coldness, and they don’t sleep with blankets in the crib. Totally agree with you about toys, those scratch mittens, and pacifiers. I never used my bottle warmer. I have a baby food blender, and I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would, but honestly I like having it as a mini steamer.

I thought we were alone in the crib debate! Trying to decide if we take it apart and move it into our bedroom or buy a bassinet.. My mom is very pro bassinet and now that I'm thinking of the layout.. Might be worth it. I've been hunting for a good video like this, thank youuuu!

My son is two now and I found TakingCaraBabies about 4 months in. I never bought a swaddle, but wish I had! I did, however, purchase the Merlins Magic Sleep Suit when he was 4-5 months old. If you have a fidgety baby, who kicks himself awake, this sleep suit is for you! ...i will be starting with the Ollie on the next one!!

Thanks, I’ve been waiting for this! I’m 24 weeks and trying to prepare as much as I can, but I don’t want to buy too much stuff either.

The only item you listed that doesn’t align 100% with what I have already purchased/put on my registry is an infant car seat. Good to know I’m doing it right! 🤣
