The one thing the NFL should add to go with the idea of an 18-game season is an extra bye week.

Instead of a 2nd bye week, every player could be required to miss at least one game. It would offset most of the concerns in this video. Things like start streaks and whatever would take it into account.

As concerned as I am for the injury factor I would like to see an 18 game schedule be played. Two bye weeks, expanded rosters, improved financial aid, and perhaps fewer Thursday games for team balance. The only problem with the Super Bowl on President's Day weekend is that it would compete with the Daytona 500 for viewers assuming no rain delays for the race. The 18th game could include another intra conference game based on division placement in the prior season. For example, an NFC East team plays everyone in the NFC North plus NFC South, the latter based on division standings. With the 18th game, play the NFC West game based on standings as well. Finally, 8 playoff teams per conference with no first round bye.

1 reason this will happen despite everything else:
Money. Lots of money. The league will get higher TV revenue, and players will get bigger contracts based off of that.

Player safety and the fact that week 17 is already pretty meaningless be dammed. It's all about getting that extra money.

I don't know why people bring up Presidents Day as a day off after the Super Bowl when only a very small percentage of people actually get Presidents Day off from work

If you are going to 18 games increase the roster to give each team an additional player for each position. Also increase the payroll
