When we watched action films in the 90s in Russia, we did not know about box office receipts and budgets. All of these films were simply great. And Van Damme was cool, like Stallone or Arnold.

I meet JCVD in the art dept of Street Fighter, he approached me and shook my hand to congratulate me, for the Bison painting. Yes, I have washed it since, sorry die hard fans ... but still, it remains a treasured memory. He didn't piss me off, just the opposite. On another occasion he nearly knocked me over coming through a door from set, he was not at all arrogant or aloof but extremely contrite and apologetic. Still remember it like it was yesterday.

I would rather watch the "worst" Van Damme movie over the "best" Seagall movie any day. JCVD may have crashed his career, but still managed to become an absolute icon of Action Movies, standing proud with titans like Arnold and Stalone.

4:50 "Cyborg had a budget of two bags of peanuts and a beer can with a production deadline of yesterday." LOL

It might sound totally unrelated but those videos make me appreciate Stallone even more. He was passionate about film making, he became insanely famous and wealthy. He didn't let his ego get over his head and he was also compassionate against movie veterans like JCVD. What a Chad.

He never fell. He's still a great man. He developed a self-depreciating style of humor in his late years and you couldn't expect him to stay in peak shape at the age he is now. He is still incredibly agile for his age.

He's still a GOAT. Many of us who grew up watching his movies got nothing but love and respect for him. Street Fighter became one of those "its so bad, its so good" movies as well.

"He is still with his fifth wife, who is also his third wife." Made me laugh and sums him up. JCVD is a great movie and the self aware monologue in it makes you want the best for him.

He made a huge contribution to action movies with his inimitable style. Despite all the criticism his movies are the best in terms of martial arts and action. On top of that they are made so realistic and natural, you watch and you bilieve his screen hero. After you like to go and train, it was the excellent motivation to start martial art classes. He reached his success by hard working and sweating. Great job had been done. In 1980s and 1990s he was on his peak, and at the end of the day he is a human being, so he failed due to bad addiction and wrong things being done. That is life. But he found the courage and power to recover and returned to normal life. Esteem, respect and many thanks to you master Van Damme.

JCVD did what Seagal never will: he grew up and became a man. Respect for that.

Van Damme had a good 15 year run as one of if not the best action stars in history. It probably won't be topped ever again
