If your cooling system is low enough that you are not getting heat from the heater you are in more danger than just a little discomfort. A blown head gasket or a ruined engine are real possibilities running your engine low on coolant. Modern aluminum engines are very easily damaged from overheating. If your cooling system is low get the system pressure tested for leakage and repair any leaks to avoid expensive repairs from overheating. And never operate the car while overheated!

I mistakenly used 3 full tanks of bio-diesel in my 2, 2CRDi Santa Fe, a B12 variety, which I think means 12% of the diesel fuel is vege oil. Not a good Idea, even Hyundai said so. So what happened? The fuel pump started misbehaving, engine would crank but cannot start. The affliction then spread to the fuel lines, the filter and the injectors. Reluctant to replace the entire fuelling system, I opted for a cleaner additive, every tankful, for 6 months. Eventually the system cleaned up, and the engine went back to normal starting. Some additives can be life savers, in these situations.

I would be thrilled if my current car lasts as long as my previous one. I passed it on to my nephew with 345k miles still running strong. All I did was regular oils changes, brakes and battery when needed. I never changed the transmission fluid and I don’t even remember ever changing the coolant.
