Why UW Has Dominated WSU As Of Late : Apple Cup 2018 (Max Browne)

A preview of the 2018 Apple Cup. A matchup between the Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies with everything on the line. Pac 12 North Title, Pac 12 Championship birth, potential Rose Bowl birth, as well as College Football Playoff (CFP) implications. This should be a fun one in Pullman as Chris Petersen and Mike Leach square off.

Being a hardcore WSU fan since I was 3, here's my thought of why we can't seem to win an Apple Cup:

1. D-Line. While it's good, it's completely under sized against a Big O-Line like UW's. it's also the main reason why Gaskin had so much success against us. You know you gotta contain him, but there's only so much you can do when you're getting bullied by the O-Line. Also this hauting stat line:
Gaskin TD's in ACs: 10
The entire WSU offense in ACs while Gaskin was at Uw: 6
Gaskin SINGLE HANDEDLY Beat us.... And thank god he's gone.

2. WSU's 1-Dimensional offense. As much as Lake's post-game comments pissed me off after the 18' AC. He sadly has a point. WSU goes completely 1-Dimensional in the game for some reason and never seems to want to run the ball, even when its worked! Yeah one WSU's first possession after Browning got picked, WSU was actually running, AND they were getting yards, even with the check down's. But for whatever reason, they completely abandoned the run, became one-dimensional, and UW's D took over from there.

3. Leach. Yes in my eyes, Leach is the reason WSU can't seem to win an AC now. Why? Simple. Leach doesn't treat the AC like a rivalry. And it reflects, especially in 2017. I looked at both sidelines, UW was fired up, poised and determined to win. Then I looked at WSU's sideline, nothing, it looked like our players didn't even give two shits. And i've mentally prepped myself, cause I feel like unless something happens at UW where Peterson takes off, or Leach figures out how to inspire his team for this game, WSU may not win this game for a while.. and it REALLY pains me to even say that....

Good pre-game breakdown! Now that the Huskies have again dominated the Cougs, UW Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake had an interesting post-game insight on how the UW is able to throttle Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense:

"They (WAZZU) do the same thing, year in and year out. This is five years in a row now, and so it makes it real easy to game-plan . . . so hopefully he (Mike Leach) remains here a long time. That would be awesome.”
