Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate review - the best GT car around? | Autocar

We've got something of a soft spot for fast GT cars here at Autocar. What's not to love about a cross-country cruiser that can leave most things on the road in the dust?

Aston Martin has been the king of this class for a while now with the DBS Superleggera, a blisteringly quick cruiser that the firm refers to as "a brute in a suit".

However, it's now in its last year of production, and Aston Martin have released this as a swansong - the DBS 770 Ultimate. With an uprated V12, new styling quirks and a whole host of handling adjustments, can it improve on greatness?

Join Richard Lane as he heads to the Cotswolds to find out.

I have to say, these new Aston's are the most beautiful modern cars made today

I work at a medical office. About ten yrs ago, I had driven to the bank next door for change, and as I pulled back into our parking lot, my spidey car senses went off, and I noticed a black DB9 Volante parked close to the front of the lot. Of course, I had to know who owned it, so I scanned our lobby looking for a potential Aston owner. Noticed a fella standing beside our aquarium that seemed to have the swag to own one. I opened the lobby door and asked him if it was his. He said yes and I proceeded to tell him how beautiful and special it was. He immediately pulls the key out of his pocket and hands it over. The car had no gas, sitting on empty. I crank it up and drive around a few blocks w the top already down. Got to have a lil fun w it, even scared an old man walking down the street. That v12 sound on throttle and the way that car looked, I will never forget. I will always wonder if he made it to the gas station tho. Love those Astons...

Easily the best-looking wheel design I’ve seen in probably 30 years.

Just the beauty and the sound of the thing alone are breathtaking

Wow, what a great video. Very well shot (although what is that annoying jitter like poor frame rate or something?) excellent detail and content, and really informative. Suddenly Autocar are making the best car reviews on yt?! Excellent work Richard and team and more like this please. This is the formula. No contrived silly storylines, no pointless skidding about, but still pushing the car within reason to formulate accurate opinions of it's dynamic behaviour. How refreshing! And WD Aston (and presumably Matt Becker and team?) for producing a wonderful machine. Great stuff all around.

Great review. Finally someone who gets what a super GT car should be about

good to hear that Aston has returned to form. Maybe Lawrence Stroll is having a beneficial effect after all - certainly seems that way for the F1 team at the moment. Hopefully this presages even more successful, if less unaffordable, Aston models.

Amazing car, but still putting the 2014 infotainment system is just not on!!

Would love to get Aston Martins reasoning behind it!!

This car does it in spades. It is a piece of Art. Which driving one must be an occasion in itself.

That car in the right spec is prettier than anything else on the road at any price.

Another great Aston, my midlife celebration car is a current generation Vantage.
One thing I must say to you Richard (and others) please don't treat our country lanes like a race track (7.04 mins in), you seemed to reserve your sensible driving to the wide main road. You never know what's around the next corner....granted you had a 'spotter', although not everywhere, but this more than 'spirited driving' encourages others less capable with all too often tragic outcomes.
One more point, exhaust bypass systems should only be used on a track!

I dont think the ancient infotainment system is a bad point, in a car like that, with the way it looks, the way it handles, the way it sounds, the whole driving experience, you don't want a giant screen distracting you & making the interior look more Tesla than Aston, you don't want everything touchscreen, swiping & prodding away, you want minimal screen size & plenty of physical buttons

Stunning exterior and engine. Interior (where you spend 99% of the time) no better a top of the range Kia. Has anyone from the design team at Aston Martin even looked inside a Porsche, Lamborghini or Ferrari?

Great car. I hope the next generation are a bit more compact. I had a previous gen Vantage and the size was pretty perfect. Like Ferrari did with the F12 after the 599, make is smaller.

I Really Like the Quad 4 Exhaust Pipes. I Take This Over the New DB12. Love 2+2 GTs.

Really good review, but I think the in-car cam and microphone could do with an upgrade.

The dashboard looks like it's from a 2014.
