new country, new city, new me. this place and people, they’re guiding me through some kind of spiritual awakening - the vibes here are immaculate 😍

it’s a Thursday morning, and I’m putting together my Manila itinerary while eating chicken rice in a restaurant. as I’m scrolling through the Wikipedia page for the largest malls in the world it hits me: I’m sitting in the 14th largest mall on Earth - SM Megamall.

wow! I think to myself. the biggest one I’ve ever been in, and I didn’t even realize it until now. I guess we can tick the big mall off my bucket list.

suddenly, the entire restaurant bursts into clapping and cheers. everyone - literally EVERYONE including kids join in, singing “Happy Birthday to You.” it went from zero to a hundred in seconds, like some perfectly timed, choreographed performance - except it’s not. they are all strangers, except for a small group of four celebrating their friend’s birthday.

coming straight from Japan, I’m completely STUNNED. but I clap along, too shy to join the singing, but the moment stays with me. now I know where to celebrate my birthday next year 🤣

afterward, I make my way to a coffee shop and find a spot to wait for my order. a policeman walks up to me - did I do something wrong? he hands me my drink with a smile. “Pasha, ” he says, offering me my coffee. I’m confused, but somehow, it feels like a small, serendipitous moment of kindness? BUT HOW DOES HE KNOW MY NAME?!
