Attempt 2: It's better but it is getting closer but not quite!
Attempt 3: After simplified, so close!
Attempt 4: So close again, but it was little bottom than last time. like what did I do wrong and he knew it.
Attempt 5: Made a mistake, wrong direction. like he knew it he messed it up!

Then he placed it in the same spot in almost every other attempt. The hubris!

There is a phenomenon. It is related to visual defects. I can't remember the name but such a person doesn't need to wear glasses but can't see properly. Such a person sees objects in a slightly different place than they actually are.

Oh George, on one of The Cube's toughest games you could have just focused completely on the target square and you could've won in a few attempt. Oh well, nevermind the money now flushed down the toilet.

I’m not saying this is easy because of course it’s not, but he needs to have a more calculated approach. Just count your steps and you should have it within 3 attempts
