Making Money Buying & Selling Vintage Watches with David Harper (Bargain Hunt, Antiques Roadtrip)

In this video I’ll give you some top tips on how to handle the sale of vintage watches. I’ll show you two pieces I’m selling for a client. An Omega Deville and a 18K gold Patek Philippe.

Whether you’re buying and selling them yourself or selling on behalf of a client, I’ll give you trade tips on how to go about it, if you’re interested in making money out of vintage watches.

As in all my videos, the most important thing you need is an interest in the items. If you just go into it because you think you can make some money, you’re unlikely to succeed.

Interest and passion cost nothing, but if you have it, these are the commodities that will make you money...watch the video to the end, it’ll all make sense!

Let me know what you think - please do comment below and get in touch
Cheers
David

This was a fantastic video David, great stuff. I would love you to do a video on money management within the antiques trade please! Sort of moving up the levels and dealing in higher end items. The balance of reinvesting profits into more stock, but leaving enough capital for good deals that pop up.

Interesting as always David. You said that as a broker that you have to stand behind the item after the sale which is only right and proper. You can't however take on that responsibility indefinitely. Particularly with mechanical things such as watches and indeed vintage cars you never know when they might fail. What do you feel is a proper period of time to give a client for consideration for such failures? I understand that the value of the item and your relationship with the client is a factor.

Hi useful and interesting advice. Just one question...How do you ensure secure transit of valuable items between you and your client, either returning the item or arranging for the item(s) to be viewed ?

So if you sell on eBay for Commission for a client - how does it work with the the fees that sellers (you) have to incur ... do you charge the client these as well as your Commission on the selling price? Also there are PayPal fees ... Thanks David

Who is looking for an antique Elgin (1942) watch here? It doesn't function, but the watch itself can still be fix and kept for good, reply to this comment if interested.
