This video is proof, if proof be needed, that a branch of the Shotokai went in the wrong direction. Compare this video with early vids of Harada Sensei or modern vids of Tony Lima. Yes Shotokai students have excellent timing (from all those hour pacing up and down in pairs). But those who trained with Harada Sensei in his later years don't seem to have appreciated the decades of hard-style practice he put in as foundation. Why do you practice Kata if none of it ever appears in your kumite? You have ended up with an even weaker Aikido and lost sight of Karate. They will say I am missing the point: I would say = if you want Zen just practice Zen without risking your students falsely thinking that they can defend themselves.

T Lima started Shotokai with me way back in 1970s with different concept but I have seem in the last 15 years a variation which has nothing of the original Harada teachings, there too many youtude videos showing people falling at a distance with no technical or realistic logic, created vy Harada himself. Its sad but this is what Shotokai has come to.
