Its sad that street homeless folk are ALWAYS at the bottom of the barrel. Why don't they do a rule if a person has years of chronic street homelessness & mental illness and no family - they should be institutionalized? I know, i know, it sounds bad, but it's probably the best way. The reason ppl who clearly should be medicated and receive hardcore therapy are in the street is because they reject services. And NY state leaves patients alone who refuse treatment. Clinicians and non for profits can't help someone who doesn't want it or doesn't have an address, telephone or family. Its truly sad. Also, many hospitals USED to have really decent outreach services but they have slowly disappeared.
