For the first time in history, a woman has been appointed to lead NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

It's an exciting time for women in the space exploration industry with newly appointed Dr Laura Leshin saying as a child she “could never imagine” this would ever happen.

Dr Leshin started in NASA as a PhD student from Caltech before having a distinguished career as a geochemist, space scientist, and academic.

I hope she’s got the right skill set, works like a demon and is more than qualified. Anything less isn’t good enough. Her gender is irrelevant.

"We need more women in space"? No let me tell you what we actually fucking need. How about a royal comission into our state and federal politicians and their handling of the scamdemic? I think we "need" that.

I hope it was merit not gender that landed her the role.

Did she get it because she's the best or because she's a woman

I’m betting this will be as successful as our first female Vice President or our first lesbian, POC, immigrant White House spokesperson. Neither of which seem to be able to complete a full sentence.

Yep, we need more women in space that's for sure. Can we trade them? for something more appropriate

Democrats will break NASA like they've broken every other federal department.
Only NASA would build a 1970s moon rocket in 2022 😏

Such fantastic news did she actually earn the position or she was just promoted because she is a women. Oh by the way please define a women for us.

"Fish female leader" only means that there have been a long line of people before her. That have already done the job and defined it for the last eight five years since it's inception.

"Dr Leshin ... having a distinguished career as a geochemist, space scientist, and academic." I wonder what her accomplishments were that distinguished her in those career positions.

The only people that care about this are the same people who can’t tell you what the definition of a woman is. How do we know they aren’t just a menstruating person and are actually a woman?

is she also black, AfricanFrenchAmerican and lesbian tho??

I followed nada since before the Mercury project. Women have always been involved. But the diversity hires, she seems qualified, but the videos from Nasa bragging about alphabet groups turned me off.
I prefer the seriousness of ground control during the sixties and seventies compared to a room full of code writers with pink hair cheering and bragging on how well they can write code when a launch is successful.

Does she know which side the fuel cap is on?
