I was in children's homes from baby to 16 years old. This film took me back to those brutal days in the 60s and 70s. I am now nearly 60 but struggle every single day. I still have nightmares and live my life lost and depressed. This is a fantastic movie, highlighting the tragic start in life many of us had. Much respect to Paul for telling his story ❤️

One of the most powerful films I have ever seen . Harrowing and real. Many human beings do not deserve to be on this earth.

Just finished watching this on Netflix.. What can I say, 10/10. This is flawless.. Gritty, raw and very hard to watch at times but my God am I glad I did.. Highly, highly recommended.. This one will live on with me for awhile

Paul, I will watch this, because I owe that to you, but at the same time, it will break my heart, for what you and the other children endured xx

It was really heartbreaking to know that this happened to a lot of children all over the world and to see here in this movie that adult can break a child

From a cinematic standpoint, great film. Great acting from pretty much the entire cast (especially the actor who played Paul), great settings, great cuts, great framing, great shots. When watching the movie, it's clear that it was made by people who know the true artistry of filming and how to properly work with a camera. A rear bread of filmmakers these days.

I was a little concerned at the beginning about the short running time of just 1h 30 min., but after watching it, i can say that they didn't wasted any minute of that runtime with unnecessary scenes that don't contribute anything to the story. Every scene felt important. Considering these facts, i say the movie has just the right runtime. The story was just told in a more compact way that most 2 hour + movies do and i actually like it more that way.

SPOILER ALERT from here now on: I liked how respectfully this difficult subject matter of child abuse was handled in this movie. I was afraid watching this movie because i feared that it's gonna be one of those movies that i have to stop watching because they go a little too far and vivid in the abuse scenes. But thankfully, this movie used mostly suggestive scenes to paint the picture of what happened to those children instead of showing the abuse directly. Don't get me wrong, it still has 2 or 3 uncomfortable and disturbing scenes in it, and it should disturb the audience to a curtain degree, but those didn't go too far. This movie doesn't exploit those childrens misery for making money with this movie. It's all done with respect to the victims. The reason behind this is most probably that Paul, the real Paul, co-produced this movie. You can tell by how it's done that a real victim had a say in the production of this film. I also liked the very last shot of the movie where we see the real Paul in the mirror. It's a grim reminder at the very end that this shit really happened and it's a great relief seing Paul well and alive after the scene before where we are left in suspenseful uncertainty after we see the movie Paul sticking a gun into his mouth.

In the end, i want to say that even though this movie deals with a very dark subject, i feel happy for Paul after watching it. After fighting with his trauma for his entire life, he had the strength not to pull the trigger on him. Literally and metaphorically. He had the strength to love and to get married and get children. He had the strength to give his life another chance. He found light in the darkness of the deepest abyss. He is a true inspiration for me and many others. After knowing what he went through, you just know that he's gonna be the best dad ever to his kids.

Thank you Paul. Thank you for not pulling the trigger.

We are suppose to be stable at twelve years old and so then! You have the whole world to run away too! My dad ran away at five years old and him and my two older sisters were to smart for me because they were mathematicians and I just couldn’t get it! I had the world to go see instead! But I just stayed here in America because I don’t trust out there because of my pea brain! And so almost out of here! Father Almighty!
